I have fond memories as a kid killing time in old record/tape/CD stores. Remember them? Those of us who are old enough to remember them being in existence for the majority of our lives are the lucky ones.
Nothing was more fun than 1.) either finding a rare tape, LP or CD that we had been searching for or 2.) taking a chance on something we hadn’t previously heard of and it blending in with one of our favorite styles.
But it is also nice to know that even though record/tape/CD stores remain a thing of the past (for the most part), there are small labels like Caligari Records that are keeping those record hunting thrills alive with limited cassette tape releases.
Take, for example the new limited edition cassette by Obscure Evil called Void Fumes. Caligari still has a few copies of the 150 initial pressing left. So, check with them and go buy one. Help them keep the spirit of the good old-school style and limited tape releases alive.
This is a proper nostalgic trip back into the days when early Kreator, Slayer and Venom paved the way for legions to follow. Just produced right to sound like a good cult release and full of echoed reverb’d aggressive vocals along with tons of amazing guitar riffs that blend thrash, black and death elements (but maybe lean toward old 80s/early 90s thrash.) At least if we don’t have the record stores, we at least have these new bands and labels keeping the old school alive.
