It’s not often anymore that we receive submissions of quality neofolk. Given that we received two in the same week, let us let us make you aware of another.
The simply titled II is the new digital-only EP from obscure artist Evan Wade. The EP contains 4 tracks; a good mix of neo/dark folk and Americana herein.
The opening track, “Strength To Care” is a straight-up mix of Americana and dark folk with a hint of the likes of bands such as The Church. “Apparition” has more of a medieval rhythm and leans more toward the classic Death in June sound. “Crying Shame” goes back and forth between the loner folk sound of the 60s and 70s with slightly treated acoustics and some nice neofolk vibes. “Season’s End” begins with a rhythm that is a bit reminiscent of 4Ad bands like Lush minus the reverb and ether. A nice closer to the EP. It’s unfortunate there are only four songs on the release. Deep, brooding vocals with poignant lyrics. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what he comes up with next.
